Eating vegan has never been more convenient and I’m so happy that high street chain restaurants are catering for it too! Living in London I am totally spoiled with the amount of independent and micro-chain veggie/vegan restaurants, but the list below spreads across the UK. So you can also enjoy a ‘cheeky Nandos’ with your mates!
I’ve written a little about the options of each restaurant and linked to the menu if available.
This has to go at the top of the list for me. The vegatsu, veggie gyoza, yasai samala curry and pad thai are amazing and I love that there’s a separate menu, as it takes the faff away of looking for the Ve or checking what you can have. Make sure you ask for the vegan menu, as they usually hand you the full menu. The only down side is that the desserts are rubbish… A sorbet is not a dessert in my opinion! Check out the menu HERE.
Pizza Express has some great vegan options and their labelling is very clear on the food and the drinks. You can also request to swap out dairy cheese for their vegan mozzarella on any of the pizzas… I’ve done this a couple of times and the waiters are totally cool with it. When I last went, they only had the sorbets for dessert, but I see they have a carrot cake now too, so may have to take a visit soon! Check out the menu HERE.
Nandos are pretty honest on their website, clearly stating that they aren’t a vegan restaurant. However, there is still quite a bit you still order vegan! Just remember when ordering that you’d like any yoghurt or mayo removed. I’ve linked to this helpful Veganuary post on Nandos, which is more helpful than the Nandos website itself. Check it out HERE.
Wetherspoons is an odd one, because I thought they would have a veggie burger to make vegan (sorry no beer and a burger deal for us!) However, there is a good range of mains, absolutely loads of sides (you could totally make yourself a little buffet with the sides) AND an apple crumble! This is news to me and I can’t wait to try it! Their menu has also been certified by PETA :) Check out this Veganuary post on Wetherspoons for the full vegan menu.
I know, I know, it’s not for everyone, but it is for some of us! The veggie burger (without mayo and cheese) is vegan, the chips are fried in vegetable oil AND the apple pie is vegan. That’s all you need to know really ;) The website isn’t that helpful to be honest, but you can download the allergen booklet HERE and sift through the pages if you wish!
The website has a great tool on the menu, so you can just select vegan and it comes up with all the options. Lots of little dishes to choose from; they have a chocolate tart and actual vegan ice cream for dessert! You can check out the menu HERE.
I always get vegan pizza from Zizzi because I love it, but they also have a range of vegan pastas and salads too. Zizzi also have a separate section on the menu for vegan options, making it easy to see what you can choose from. The chocolate and praline torte is incredible, get your non-vegan friends to try it! You can check out the full vegan menu HERE. Select ‘vegan’ under dietary needs (on the right).
So these places aren’t the only chain restaurants you can eat vegan, they’re just the one’s I usually go to. Here are some honorary mentions that have some great vegan options too! Chilango, Leon, Pret, Bills, Wahaca, Papa Johns (remove the cheese and the garlic sauce is vegan! So good, I’ll leave you with a picture of it!) If you have any you’d like to mention in the comments, please do!
